Salamanca woman facing numerous drug charges after accident

SHERMAN — The driver of a motor vehicle who struck a deer on Interstate 86 late Thursday is facing a number of drug charges.

At about 11:55 p.m., Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find that the vehicle had incurred heavy damage, but the occupants were unharmed. The operator was identified as Candy L. Leon.

During the interaction, deputies observed suspicious circumstances with the occupants and investigated further. Subsequently, the sheriff’s office K9 Link was deployed on a sniff of the vehicle, and did alert to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle.

Inside, Deputies located over one half-ounce of methamphetamine, 2 grams of cocaine, 2 grams of heroin, prescription pills, marihuana, hypodermic needles, and other drug paraphernalia.

Leon was charged with fourth-degree felony criminal possession controlled substance, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession controlled substance, criminally using hypodermic instrument and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Leon was arraigned in the Town of Sherman Court and remanded to the County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
