Officers: Cocaine found stuffed inside liquor bottles
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. customs agents say a man travelling from Jamaica attempted to smuggle in $115,000 worth of cocaine stuffed inside liquor bottles.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say Akeem Rasheen Lewis arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sept. 28. WNBC-TV reports CBP officers say the removed three bottles of Bailey’s liquor from Lewis’ duty free bag after they appeared to show signs of tampering.
Officers took Lewis to a private search room, where they discovered white powder wrapped inside the bottles. CBP says officers found a total of nine pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $115,000.
Lewis was turned over to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers for further investigation. Attorney information for him was not immediately available.
