Chautauqua County Genealogical Society picnic today in Westfield

WESTFIELD – The Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will host a potluck picnic, open to the public free of charge, Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 4 p.m. to dusk, at Ottoway Park, 8000 N.Y. Route 5 East, Westfield. Bring a dish to pass and personal table service. There is a pavilion, electric and picnic tables. There will be a 50/50 raffle to benefit the society with its publications and acquisitions. Society publications will be available for purchase, to order and some offered free. Gates open at 4 p.m., meal served at about 5:30 p.m.

Larry Barmore of Gerry, will be the featured speaker. Barmore is the county clerk, member of the Valley Historical Society, and has an avid interest in county families and local lore. He will speak at about 6 p.m., after the meal.

There will be an informal “open mic,” after the main speaker. Anyone attending is encouraged to bring a bit of family genealogy information, family history or tales, local history, pictures, readings, etc. The group requests that any presentations be held to a few minutes. Those who have longer presentations should ask about being a speaker at one of the meetings.

The Genealogical Society holds its regular meetings (unless otherwise announced) the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Garland Room at Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia.
