The Dunkirk High School Class of 1971 recently celebrated its 45th reunion with a fun-filled weekend.

On Friday, July 15, the highlight of the reunion was the reorganization of the band “The Raque,” a great band that played all our favorites from our high school days.

A special thanks to Les Sikorski for all his hard work and efforts in getting the band back together. Also thanks go out to our own fellow classmate Ang Zappie, who helped us organize “this blast from the past” at his establishment “Rookies.”

The committee would also like to thank all those classmates who brought a dish to pass to the reunion.

On Saturday, July 16, the class met at the East Town Fire Hall. Paul Lancaster gave the invocation and a buffet dinner followed with mingling and reminiscing about the “good old days.”

Prizes were awarded for numerous questions and Leslie Roman Williams provided a quiz about four years at DHS. She also made and sent numerous “maroon and white” gifts as prizes.

Classmates were able to view the “Circle of Life” memorial updated by Kathy Szopinski. Scrapbooks and yearbooks were on display for the classmates to enjoy. Music from the 70s filled the room that evening.

Sheila Widgay Wassink donated the maroon and white napkins.

The group then went outside and played Polish horseshoes, corn hole and washers.

Fellow classmates came from New York, Indiana, Arizona, Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, California, Nevada, Georgia and Connecticut. Approximately 190 people attended both nights.

The committee consisted of Dick and Bonnie Purol, Vinny and Deb Piglowski, Linda Naslund Mikula, Sally Lundin Moran and Kathy Szopinski.
