Dunkirk Memorial Unit 62 conducts October meeting, sets upcoming events

The meeting of Dunkirk Memorial Unit 62 was called to order by President Audrey Miga on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Chaplain Lucinda Simpson read the opening prayer.

The Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble to the Auxiliary Constitution was led by Miga. Secretary Jean Sutton took roll call with 12 in attendance. Sutton read the minutes from Sept. 13 which were approved by the group.

Treasurer Kyle Ahlstrom gave her report which will be filed for audit. Ahlstrom presented the 2016-17 budget. Discussion was held and the budget was approved.

Miga reported that the 8th District meeting was well attended on Oct. 2 and thanked auxiliary members for helping with the lunch for the veterans. The February 2017 fundraiser was discussed. Tickets will be printed and distributed at the November meeting.

Dawn Ransom is now accepting dues for 2016-17. Membership renewals are currently at 65. Chaplain Lucinda Simpson will send get well cards to Linda Cobb and Sue Dietzen. Miga reported on Junior Activities, including a junior member attended a unit meeting.

Janet Jagoda reported that the poppy order will be placed before Dec. 1.  Her National Security report will include the hours and volunteers clipping coupons that are sent to military overseas.

In Pat Kibbe’s absence, Miga reported that the online Department constitution and bylaws have been updated. The Unit will review them at a future meeting.

Ransom reported on community service and recorded hours donated by members to nursing homes, churches, transporting elderly to doctors, and Meals on Wheels. A report will be sent to Department. Ransom also reported on VA&R in Del Jusko’s absence. A donation was given to the VA gift shop, as well as donations of clothing to the VA by several members.

Sutton read a request from Dunkirk Schools for a field trip for School 7 kindergarten students to go to Harvest Happenings in Sheridan. A donation will be sent for the educational experience. A letter was received a letter from Chautauqua County American Legion Auxiliary announcing the next monthly meeting on Oct. 13 at John W. Dill Post 434 in Brocton.

A Veterans Day Cere-mony will be held at St. Vincent’s Home on Friday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.

A Veterans Day Swiss Steak dinner will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Veterans will receive complimentary dinners. Tickets are available at the Post. Auxiliary members are asked to help and desserts are appreciated.

The next Unit meeting will be held on Tuesday, at 7 p.m. The closing prayer was offered by Simpson.
