Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care will hold a book signing to recognize local author Loren Mayshark. Mayshark’s new book, “Death: An Exploration,” brings together unique viewpoints on “life’s most feared mystery.”

The book signing will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at SUNY Fredonia in the Horizon Room in the lower level of the Williams Center. It is free and open to the public.

“Death: An Exploration” is the first book from western New York native and author Mayshark. The non-fiction book journeys through multiple viewpoints, including Steve Jobs’s embrace of his death, Ray Kurzweil’s striving for immortality, and Joseph Campbell’s view of death as the “ornament of life.” Mayshark’s writing channels the view of death by tying together subjects of theory from contemporary minds, spiritual insights, scientific discoveries and his own personal reflections.

“The book signing represents a unique opportunity to foster dialog about death and demystify the most profound and common experience that we will all experience,” said Shauna Anderson, president and CEO of Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care. “We’re grateful to be able to collaborate with Mr. Mayshark and SUNY Fredonia to bring this program to our community.”

Mayshark is a Chautauqua County native residing in Bemus Point. He is a regular contributor to Can the Man, an alternative media resource focused on social justice, and the Jovial Journey, a website dedicated to food, drink, and travel. He attended the famed Gotham Writers’ Workshop and the prestigious New York Writers Workshop where he refined his writing skills.

He is a 2004 graduate of Manhattanville College where he earned a BA in world history. Mayshark also attended the MA history program at Hunter College. He has written for Permaculture Research Institute and Uisio among other prominent outlets. “Death: An Exploration” is his first book, which debuted on Amazon for Kindle in early 2016.

“My book serves the purpose of helping readers discover more about death in order to enjoy a fuller life overall,” explained May-shark. “It channels the view of death by tying together subjects of theory from contemporary minds, spiritual insights, scientific discoveries, and my own personal reflections.”

Parking will be available adjacent to the Williams Center and refreshments will be served.

Copies of Mayshark’s book will be available for purchase at the event for $10 — cash only.
