Pomona Grange learns about grand mal seizures

On Saturday,  Nov. 12, Chautauqua County Pomona Grange 3 met at Fredonia Grange 1 on Main Street in Fredonia. Master Lois Kesby presided at the 1 p.m. business session, which had been preceded by committee meetings at 11 a.m. and a noon lunch.

The opening song was “America the Beautiful.” All recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Tom Hebiesen welcomed everyone on behalf of Fredonia Grange. Betty Wakefield responded as Lecturer of Pomona.

Linda Kesby shared a recording of the song, “There’s a Star-Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere,” on behalf of Chaplain Arthur Kinney.

Hebiesen announced National Fuel wants to terminate the privilege of landowners operating their own gas wells. Members feel they should be able to use what is on their property.

Jen Mackey is collecting signatures on behalf of National Grid or NYSEG for people to sign up to receive electric.

Linda Kesby announced Family Activities contests and congratulated Opal Sprague for first1st place at NYS gingerbread cake contest.

Pomona grange is selling Rada knives and two-year planning calendars (pocket-size).

Representatives who recently attended State Session in Albany reported about their experiences and suggestions: Lois and Linda Kesby, Leona Peterson and Wakefield, Jared and Martha Woolley.

New York State Leadership/Membership Director, Kathy Miller, sent recognition to Melissa Thompson of Fredonia Grange for obtaining 27 Associate Members this year.

Pomona Lecturer Wakefield introduced Jennifer Phillips and her family, Tristen, Kaden, and Cassidy, who live in Westfield. Cassidy is 11 years old and has already experienced a grand mal seizure as a result of AVF. She shared information about the illness and has helped raise $7,000 so far to help others who have a similar situation. (AVF is a situation of tangled blood vessels that cause a stroke-like experience.)

The next Pomona meeting will be Feb. 25 at Ross Grange. The WNY Farm Show is in Hamburg at Erie County Fairgrounds Feb. 3, 4 and 5. The State Grange will have a booth.
