Anderson-Lee Library announces more children’s, young adult programming

SILVER CREEK — The Anderson-Lee Library, located at 43 Main St. in Silver Creek, has announced additional Children’s and Young Adult programming for January through May 2017. When registration is required, stop by the library or call 934-3468 to sign up.

Grades 6  through 12 are invited to participate in a Trivia Night on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. This program is free and registration is required. Prizes will be awarded!

Thursday, Jan. 19 will be all things Winnie the Pooh!  Two special events will be held during the day.  At 10:30 a.m., preschoolers are invited to story and craft time. At 4 p.m., all ages are invited to a tea party to celebrate the birthday of A. A. Milne. Bring a favorite Pooh character for tea, games, and crafts in the Hundred Acre Woods. Both programs are free and registration is required.

On Thursday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m., celebrate the Chinese New Year with stories and crafts and special treats. This program for all ages is free and registration is required.

Saturday Feb. 4,  between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., enjoy special activities to celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day. A variety of activities including Legos, games, puzzles, crafts and stories will be offered.  Come for 15 minutes or an hour to see all of the fun activities available at your local library!  This is a free event for all ages.  No registration is required. Stop by any time during the 2 hour event.

Thursday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m., celebrate Fairy Tale Week. A variety of building materials will be available for children of all ages to build a house from the story of The Three Little Pigs. At this free program, participants will be challenged to build a house that the big bad wolf can’t blow down! No registration is required.

Thursday, March 9 at 4 p.m., enjoy the Festival of Owls with stories, games and crafts about owls. This program for children ages pre-school to grade 5 is free with no registration required.

Tuesday, March 21 at 6:15 p.m., learn about the fairly new festival Extraterrestrial Abductions Day. Make a cool alien abduction lamp to commemorate this event. This free program is for those in grades 6 through 12 and registration is required to ensure enough materials for the activity.

Tuesday, April 4, Grades 6 and up are invited to attend a Found Poetry Event at 6:15 p.m. Using words and phrases from other printed works, participants will create their own unique bits of poetry. This is a free program and registration is required.  Refreshments will be provided.

On Thursday, April 27, the library celebrates the Month of the Young Child with two special story times with games and crafts, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. and at 4 p.m. for pre-school to second grade. This is a free event and no registration is required.

May the 4th be with You! on National Star Wars Day. All ages are invited on Thursday, May 4 at 6:15 p.m. for special games and crafts. Come dressed as a favorite Star Wars character for a costume parade through the library. This is a free program and registration is required.

On Thursday, May 11, the library will hold two events where participants will be able to participate in age appropriate space related STEM activities. Pre-school children are invited to come for a session at 10:30 a.m. and children grades Kindergarten to fifth grade are invited to come for a session at 4 p.m. This is a free program and registration is required.

The mission of the Anderson-Lee Library is to advance the quality of life in the communities it serves by providing access to information resources, staff, facilities, and services geared to patrons’ needs and interests. The library assists users of all ages by developing its collections, and providing services and programs that support the pursuit of knowledge and the development of the individual’s full potential.
