Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club to hold 8th Annual Garden Faire and Plant Sale May 26

Submitted Photo The 8th annual Garden Faire will be held this Saturday, May 19, in the village park in Silver Creek from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spring is finally here, and the Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club is making its final preparations for the 8th annual Garden Faire that will be held this Saturday, May 26, in the village park (corner of Main Street and Central Avenue) in Silver Creek from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event has been moved to next week due to the weather forecast.

The Garden Faire will have plant sales, craft sales, food, silent auction, vendors and free activities for the kids. The plant sale at the Garden Faire is a great way to get new garden plants at a reasonable price and help support the club’s efforts to beautify the Silver Creek community, too. This plant sale is one of two fund-raising events the club holds during the year. The proceeds from the Garden Faire help the club to purchase flowers, plants, soil, mulch, planters, and other materials needed to maintain and improve the village’s curb appeal in its parks, monuments and welcome signs.

As always, members are offering a wide variety of garden plants and shrubs such as viburnum, wisteria, potentilla, pussy willows, hydrangeas, irises, daylilies, geraniums, Gerber daisies, geraniums, and memorial pots as well as donated plant materials from our local gardens and nurseries. New for this year, the club will be offering potted succulent plants for sale. Succulents are an easy-to-care for plant and a great addition to indoor gardens.

Garden club members will also be offering a variety of hand-crafted items for the garden such as concrete leaf castings, and Mason bee houses for sale. Mason bees are a native, non-stinging bee that is also a great pollinator. Keeping these bees is easy and a good way to help pollinate fruit crops, flowers and vegetable gardens. Be sure to stop by and see these unique, hand crafted items. The club will also have 100 tomato plants and will be giving away a free tomato plant with each plant or craft purchase while supplies last.

Finally, the silent auction will feature many great prizes and gift certificates. The auction is made possible due to the generosity of sponsors such as Brunner Bayside Catering, Mulberry Italian Restaurant, David Austin Roses, Paw Paw Everlast Label Co, Salvatore’s Restaurant, Lebanon Seaboard Corp, Webb’s Captains Table, Proven Winners, Wild Birds Unlimited and numerous other local businesses.

As in previous years, there will be a variety of food and craft vendors in addition to the plant and flower sale. Vendors showcase a variety of popular and local crafts for everyone’s enjoyment. Vendor applications are being accepted until May 18. If interested in showing your product at this event, contact club president, Ed Newman at edlorrie@yahoo.com and provide your name, organization/product and mailing address for further information or for a vendor application.

The garden club is always welcoming new members. The club was established in 2010 to promote the use, study and enjoyment of gardening for the public and its members. Members take pride in this community and want to help maintain and improve the curb appeal of the town and village parks, monuments and welcome signs for everyone’s enjoyment. Club monthly meetings include outings to various area gardens, educational events, demonstrations or planning plant related projects for the village and community.

The club meets at 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month at the Silver Creek Senior Center, located at 1823 Lake Road (Route 5), Silver Creek. If interested in joining, stop by or contact Ed Newman at edlorrie@yahoo.com.
