Dunkirk Lodge 89 Loyal Order of Moose

The 2018-19 Board of Officers were introduced to the membership at the monthly lodge meeting held on Tuesday, June 26th. The officers include: Matt Pokoj, Governor; Robert Collins, Junior Governor; Mark Lawrence, Treasurer; John Pokoj, Administrator; Mike Mahoney, Prelate; David Claybrooke and Bill McNamara, Trustees; Rick Winder, Past Governor, and; Gary Collins, Sgt.-at-Arms. It was also noted that David Dennie will be the new Territory Manager for Moose International effective Aug. 1.

The Business Plan Committee gave a report on the possible sale of the lodge building. It was noted that the realtor has had the listing online for the past month and that the first publication in the OBSERVER occurred on Wednesday, June 20. The committee was disappointed that the realtor has not yet posted a sign on the building. The membership was again reminded that the lodge is not closing but is considering downsizing to another location, just like the steelworkers who moved from the Phillip Murray Hall on Central Avenue to their present location on Fourth Street in Dunkirk years ago. A 50/50 raffle is presently in progress with tickets available in the clubrooms to help offset the costs associated with the possible sale. The drawing will take place at the lodge meeting scheduled for July 24.

Upcoming events discussed include a Cruise Night on Monday, July 9 at the lodge and the next district meeting scheduled for July 29 at the Westfield Moose lodge. The district meeting will be in the form of a picnic beginning at 1 p.m. and the election of district officers will take place at that time. Preliminary plans are also being made for a benefit spaghetti dinner for Nathan Kaus at a date yet to be determined. Donations and gift baskets would greatly be appreciated and can be left at the lodge.

The next lodge meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10 at 7 p.m. All members are invited to attend.
