BLOOM Garden recognition program seeking community partners

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) has announced the creation of the BLOOM Front Garden Recognition Program. The purpose of the program is to acknowledge and celebrate the work of residents who contribute beauty to the northern Chautauqua region through their front gardens and landscaping. The program will take place this summer.

Community partners are needed to organize and lead projects within individual municipalities. Eligible partners include civic organizations, garden clubs, chambers of commerce, neighborhood revitalization groups, municipalities, and similar organizations. Collaboration among partners is encouraged. To participate, community partners must organize a team of volunteers to carry out the program.

Teams will survey all front yards within their individual municipality and identify those that deserve recognition. Homeowners whose yards are identified will receive a BLOOM designation sign for their front yard.

The overall goal of the project is to encourage communities to contribute to a more beautiful region and to say thank you for the color and character that garden stewards bring to our neighborhoods. By publicly acknowledging homeowners and renters who contribute to the curb appeal of our neighborhoods, NCCF hopes to inspire others to take part in making a more beautiful vibrant northern Chautauqua.

Interested community partners are encouraged to submit a letter of interest by March 15, to the NCCF, 212 Lake Shore Drive West, Dunkirk, 14048. Details on what to include in letter and the requirements to participate can be found at www.nccfoundation.org or by calling the NCCF at 366-4892.

A Bloom Program information session will be held at the NCCF on Feb. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. Other times can be arranged for interested groups by contacting the NCCF. Questions are welcomed and should be directed to Eileen Ardillo at the number above or at eardillo@nccfoundation.org.

The NCCF, incorporated in 1986, is a tax-exempt charitable organization. Since its establishment, the NCCF has distributed more than $14 million in the community through its various grant programs. It is an organization inherently committed to enriching the northern Chautauqua community and encouraging local philanthropy. For more information on the NCCF, visit www.nccfoundation.org or call 366-4892.
