Audubon inspires creativity with free art kits for children

Submitted Photo Thanks to a grant from the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County Projects Pool Grants Program, Audubon Community Nature Center is giving away free Art Kits for Kids to inspire their creativity.

The Audubon Community Nature Center recently received a grant from the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County Projects Pool Grant Program to provide Nature Art Kits that will be available to pick up at the Nature Center during the week of June 22 to 26.

The kits will include an 8×10 canvas, a set of acrylic paints, brushes and some basic instructions on how to participate.

The suggested theme of the artwork is “your favorite thing about nature.” Children are encouraged to incorporate additional items from nature into their art pieces in order to showcase what inspires their connection to nature.

Participants may return their completed pieces to ACNC by Friday, July 17, to be showcased at the Nature Center. Audubon will display the artwork in the Nature Center’s multipurpose room as part of the re-opening of the building, once the threat of COVID-19 has largely passed.

Pickups for the Art Kits will be June 22-26 from 1 to 4 p.m.

To reserve a Nature Art Kit and schedule a pick-up date/time, call the Nature Center at 569-2345. Numbers are limited, and they will be given out first-come, first-served.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. While the Nature Center building is closed due to COVID-19 per New York state restrictions, visitors are visit the native tree arboretum, gardens, picnic area, and natural play space, walk the six miles of trails, and view Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle, from dawn to dusk daily while practicing safe social distancing measures. To learn more, call 569-2345 or visit AudubonCNC.org.
