Baldwin selected to receive SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service

Naomi Baldwin, who directs the Office of International Education at the State University at Fredonia, has been chosen to receive the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

She joins three other SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence recipients at Fredonia this year.

Baldwin collaboratively leads and coordinates all international activity on campus, oversees and advises international partnerships, develops plans and policies for international education programs and services and oversees study abroad and exchange programs.

Each year, the Office of International Education sends 150 to 180 students to study abroad programs and works with 30 to 40 incoming short-term or visiting international students.

Baldwin manages the International Pathway Program, Fredonia’s hybrid non-credit ESL and credit-bearing program, and works collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, Graduate Studies and the Office of Campus Life on international student recruitment and retention. She also establishes and maintains international opportunities for faculty and students in collaboration with academic departments.

Baldwin has played a leadership role on the Global and International Engagement Council, which implemented the Comprehensive Internationalization Task Force report. During the last three years, Baldwin has worked with the Chief Diversity Officer and Professional Development Center to deliver the Cultural Competency Institute and has been involved with other efforts to make the campus more inclusive by participating in the Fredonia Reimaging Equity and Diversity program.

Projects designed to internationalize the curriculum and provide international opportunities to faculty and staff that Baldwin has directed include Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), Eramus+, China Studies Institute (CSI), Japan Studies Institute (JSI) and Aichi University of Education staff exchange. She also hosts numerous visiting international scholars.

Through international partnerships, Baldwin has helped connect Fredonia with Aleksander Xhuvani University (Albania), University of Szeged (Hungary), Kobe Gakuin University (Japan), Kanda University of International Studies (Japan), Insight Global Education (Uganda, Fiji, Thailand), Eastern Mediterranean University (Cyprus), University of the Philippines Los Banos (Philippines), Study in Portugal Network (Portugal) and Kadir Has University (Turkey).

Baldwin currently serves on Fredonia University Senate, the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Recruitment Council, the International Pathway Program working group, the Applied Learning Council and the Micro-credential working group.

Before joining Fredonia in 2015, Baldwin was an assistant professor, head coordinator and curriculum coordinator at Yonsei University, South Korea. Prior positions include instructor/lecturer at Yeungjin College, South Korea; assistant lead coordinator/English instructor, Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village, South Korea; and adjunct faculty, assistant director of International Admissions and web designer/technical writer, all at the University of Central Missouri.

Baldwin has an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri – Kansas City; and an M.S. in Educational Technology and a B.S. in Psychology, both from Central Missouri State University.
