Chautauqua Institution third week of lectures

Chautauqua Institution’s third week of lectures examines “Art and Democracy,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the role of art and artists in an active democracy — how they’re able to raise the social consciousness, challenge the status quo and engage communities large and small toward meaningful action. On Tuesday, Darren Walker examines how transformational philanthropy strengthens the intersection of arts and social justice. Walker is president of the Ford Foundation, an international social justice philanthropy with a $13 billion endowment and $600 million in annual grant making. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.
