Fredonia-Pomfret Democrats meeting tonight

The Fredonia-Pomfret Democratic Association will hold its caucus today starting at 6:30 p.m. at Russell Joy Park’s upper pavilion. All registered Democrats in the village and town are encouraged to attend. The monthly business meeting will follow the caucus.

Interfaith Lecture Series continues today

The third week of Chautauqua Institution’s Interfaith Lecture Series, held at 2 p.m., is themed “Art: A Glimpse into the Divine,” which will explore how art underlies and underlines the commonalities of human existence. On Tuesday, David Moss details his career as a self-described transformer of Jewish texts, objects, spaces and souls. The Jerusalem-based artist is co-founder of Kol HaOt, which harnesses the power of the arts for Jewish inspiration and education. He began his career in Jewish art when he fell in love with Hebrew calligraphy.

Friesen speaks during Wednesday InterFaith Lecture

The third week of Chautauqua Institution’s Interfaith Lecture Series, held at 2 p.m., is themed “Art: A Glimpse into the Divine,” which will explore how art underlies and underlines the commonalities of human existence. On Wednesday, Eugene Friesen discusses his artistry as a cellist and composer and creates a “prayer in concert.” Friesen is a four-time Grammy Award winner and has worked and recorded with such diverse artists as Dave Brubeck, Martin Sexton, Toots Thielemans, Betty Buckley, Dar Williams, Will Ackerman and Dream Theater.

Rose speaking Wednesday for Institution’s Lecture

Chautauqua Institution’s third week of lectures examines “Art and Democracy,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the role of art and artists in an active democracy — how they’re able to raise the social consciousness, challenge the status quo and engage communities large and small toward meaningful action. On Wednesday, Tricia Rose will speak on her work as director of Brown University’s Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, which assembles scholars and practitioners for various programs and initiatives that foster creative approaches to entrenched social problems through research, scholarship, education, performance and art. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.

Brocton Village Board meeting is Wednesday

The Village Board will hold its regular meeting in person at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall. Social distancing regulations will be in effect and masks are required to attend although seating will be limited.

Chautauqua County Board of Health to meet Thursday

The Chautauqua County Board of Health will hold its meeting on Thursday, July 16, at 6 p.m. by remote access. To view the meeting on-line go to: https://www.facebook.com/myhealthycounty/ . Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the public may participate in privilege of the floor by emailing a statement prior to the Board of Health Meeting to the raters@co.chautauqua.ny.us. Emailed statements shall be read during the Privilege of the Floor.

Pine Valley School Board meeting Thursday

The Pine Valley Central School Board of Education special meeting scheduled for Thursday has been changed to Wednesday, July 29. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the board of education meeting room in the elementary school and is open to the public. All attending must wear masks, and social distancing will be observed.

Perrysburg ZBA reschedules meeting

The Perrysburg Zoning Board meeting originally scheduled for July 13 has been moved to Monday at 7 p.m.
