Drive-through chicken barbecue Wednesday

GOWANDA — A drive-through Weidner’s chicken barbecue will be held starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, and continuing until sold out at Gowanda American Legion Post 409. The barbecue benefits the Gowanda Ambulance Service Corporation. The cost is a $10 donation. To reserve tickets call 257-9275.

Panel discussion to examine harmful impact from big tech companies

Chautauqua Institution’s nine-week season features weekday lectures focusing on weekly cultural themes. Week Four examines “The Ethics of Tech: Scientific, Corporate and Personal Responsibility,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the tremendous and sometimes harmful impact Big Tech companies and their products have on society. David Danks, Jennifer Keating and Illah Nourbakhsh will join in a panel discussion centered around Week Four’s theme of “The Ethics of Tech.” Danks and Nourbakhsh serve as professors at Carnegie Mellon University and Keating is a senior lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.

Cardinal Mindszety Class 1968 birthday celebration canceled

The Cardinal Mindszenty High School Class of 1968 70th birthday celebration at Dunkirk High School originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, has been canceled. Anyone with questions is asked to call Lorraine Cole at 672-2689.
