Music competition to be streamed live
The State University at Fredonia School of Music’s Concerto Competition will be streamed live starting at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Most of the finalists will be performing live from the School of Music, although there will also be a few videos of students who cannot perform in-person. There will be no live audience for the event.
Judges will include: Drs. David Rudge, Paula Holcomb, Sarah Hamilton (as chair of Performance), and Kay Stonefelt, representing percussion and guitar; Barry Crawford for woodwinds, Dr. Marc Guy for brass; Jessica Tong for strings, and Dr. Eliran Avni for piano. They will be joined by a member of the voice faculty.
Winners of the competition usually perform some time in the following year with a major School of Music ensemble.
Student participants selected to participate in the competition, and the works they will be performing include:
Rose Roberson, harp; “Danse Sacree et Danse Profane” by Debussy. Her teacher is Adjunct Lecturer Sonja Inglefield.
Will Schrantz, saxophone; Concerto, Movements II and III by Lars-Erik Larsson; and Michelle Sanchez, saxophone; Saxophone Concerto, Movement I by Erland von Koch. Their teacher is Dr. Wildy Zumwalt.
Allison Dana, oboe; Concerto, Movements II and III by Martinu. Her teacher is Dr. Sarah Hamilton
Lauren Henning, bassoon; Concerto by Weber. Her teacher is Associate Professor Laura Koepke.
Ryan O’Shea, viola; Concerto, Movement III by Walton. His teacher is Associate Professor David Rose.
Scott Sgueglia, cello; “Sinfonia Concertante” in E minor, opus 125, Movement I by Prokofiev. His teacher is Dr. Natasha Farny.
Ye Jin Lee, piano, Concerto No. 2 opus 22 by Saint-Saens; and Tianxiao Wang, piano; Concerto opus 25, Movement III by Mendelssohn. Their teacher is Fr. Sean Duggan.
Grace Mingoea, vocalist; Copland’s “Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson.”
Robert Kleinertz, vocalist; Vaughan Williams’ “On Wenlock Edge.”
