Colorized ‘Christmas episode’ scene staged in Lucy Desi Museum

JAMESTOWN – In honor of the colorized “I Love Lucy Christmas Special” that aired on CBS Friday, the Lucy Desi Museum gave its own full-color I Love Lucy sets a Christmas makeover. Museum visitors will now be treated to a unique scene that features a special tribute to the I Love Lucy episode, “Christmas Episode.” In the episode, Lucy Ricardo insists that the Christmas tree branches are uneven until Fred Mertz eventually cuts off a few too many, leaving a very bare tree.

The “Christmas Episode” scene will be staged until Jan. 19. The “I Love Lucy Christmas Special” featured both the “Christmas Episode” as well as the iconic episode “Lucy’s Italian Movie”.

Lucille Ball’s hometown of Jamestown honors the legacy of “The First Couple of Comedy” with the Lucy Desi Museum & Center for Comedy. The museum attraction is open seven days a week, and features replica sets, Lucille Ball’s Emmy awards, costumes, rare memorabilia, and much more.

Tripling in size in 2006, the mission of the museum and center for comedy is to preserve the legacy of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and enrich the world through the healing powers of love and laughter through its commitment to the development of the comedic arts.

The Lucy Desi Center for Comedy produces the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival annually. In 2013, the festival featured Bill Engvall, Kathleen Madigan, a “Comics to Watch” showcase of comedians presented by Pandora Internet Radio. Past festivals have featured Ray Romano, Ellen DeGeneres, Lewis Black, Billy Gardell, Joan Rivers, Paula Poundstone, Tammy Pescatelli, and many more.

The Lucy Town Half Marathon & 5K is also returning to Jamestown on Oct. 11-12.

In 2013, the inaugural race saw runners from 27 different states visiting Jamestown, and Martin Short headlined at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts for a weekend that promotes both exercise and laughter. Race registration is now available online by visiting www.lucyrace.com.
