The Black Student Union (BSU) at SUNY Fredonia will be hosting “Culture Fest” on Saturday, April 5 at noon in the Steele Hall fieldhouse. BSU will also be hosting a fashion show on the same day in the same location at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available for both events at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center for $5, and will also be sold at the door. All are welcome to attend.

Culture Fest will include food such as shrimp, chicken fingers, a nacho bar, fruit, jalapeno poppers and other finger foods. The Girl Scouts of America have partnered with BSU for the event and will be selling cookies. Also featured will be craft stations where people can make an African drum, a bracelet and more, and activities will include games such as dominoes and walking bingo, and a caricature artist. Student DJ Darius Persad, the Fredonia Gospel Choir, several students, and slam poets Ntare and Erica Gault will also perform, and a stilt walker of 20 years, Paul Antonio, who once performed with Cirque De Soleil, will add his talents to the event.

In addition, the event will also feature a traveling black history museum, “Reflections in Black.” The exhibit travels to various schools and festivals to educate people on black history and will have artifacts on display.

The BSU Fashion Show will be hosted by comedian Yohance Collins from Georgia, who has done work on films including, “Stomp the Yard,” and the television show, “Yo Momma.” A reception will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include a chocolate fondue station and mock-tails, followed by the fashion show.

Designers will include Terry Clark Mason, Candace Cooper, Catherine Morales and Fredonia alumnus Lorenzo Parnell, with Fredonia student models. One section will feature the Girl Scouts of America as models to highlight self-confidence and inner beauty.
