SUNY faculty, alum to perform Bach’s St. John Passion

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music’s string, woodwind, choral, and voice areas combine to present The Saint John Passion by J.S. Bach on Wednesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Admission is free.

There will be a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall, “Why did Jesus Have to Suffer?” by Dr. Dale Tuggy Professor of Philosophy and Coordinator, Interdisciplinary Minor in Religious Studies.

A faculty/alumni orchestra and faculty/alumni soloists join the Fredonia College Choir and the Fredonia Chamber Choir for this powerful expression of the passion of Christ as set by Johann Sebestian Bach in 1724.

Professors David Colwell, violin, and David Rose, viola, will lead the faculty/alumni orchestra, with Thomas Foster (’09) on harpsichord.

Soloists include: Joe Dan Harper, evangelist; Alex Hurd, Jesus; Daniel Ihasz, Pilate; Angela Haas, soprano soloist; Julie Newell, mezzo-soprano soloist; Eric Perry, (08′) tenor soloist; Will Prapestis, (09′) baritone soloist; The Fredonia College Choir; The Fredonia Chamber Choir; and Gerald Gray, conductor.
