Audubon Secret Gardens Tour tickets go on sale Memorial Day

JAMESTOWN – In an-nouncing Jamestown Audu-bon’s 2014 Secret Gardens Tour, organizer Merle Szydlo explained, “We call them ‘secret’ because unless you know the gardeners personally, the only way you can see their amazing creations is to come on our tour.”

The 11th presentation of this welcome summertime treat will be on July 12.

This year’s tour boasts eight gardens, including three “pocket” gardens all in one block in the city of Jamestown – a first for this event. Featured gardens are in Jamestown, Lakewood, and Celoron.

Szydlo added, “One of these hidden treasures has been so popular that this is its fourth time on the circuit. And imagine a fallen barn turned into a sunken garden.”

Rain or shine, the Secret Gardens Tour runs from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on July 12.

Presale tickets for $10 go on sale in the Jamestown area on Memorial Day at Audubon, Four Seasons Garden Market (until June 30), Lake View Gardens, Mike’s Nursery, Peterson Farm, Robert’s Nursery, Sec-ret Garden Flower Shop, and Stillwater Garden Market.

Tickets for $12 can be purchased at the participating gardens on the day of the tour.

The Secret Gardens Tour supports the nature education programs of the Audubon Center & Sanctuary at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren, Pa.

The Nature Center building, housing the Blue Heron Gift Shop and exhibits of live fish, reptiles, amphibians and more, is open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Sundays 1-4:30 p.m.

The Sanctuary’s five and a half miles of trails, Bald Eagle viewing, arboretum, and multiple gardens are open dawn to dusk every day.
