A casting and crew call is being issued for Action Film Workshops, an introduction to digital media production, that the State University of New York at Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance will host for students, ages 13 and up, at Rockefeller Arts Center from July 28 through Aug. 2.

Two course sequences – acting on camera and working on a production crew – will be offered. Specialized training will be offered in the following morning studio courses: Acting for Camera, Editing and Digital Effects, Sound, Lighting and Camera Work, Swords and Stunts, and Foley and Sound Effects.

Students will also work on two AFW productions – “Street Wars” and “The Lost Sword of Masamune” – at location shooting during afternoon sessions. Industry professions will review footage and offer feedback at daily critique sessions. Parents are invited to a career talk and screening of all student-produced footage on Saturday.

Each student will receive a free t-shirt, daily snack and a thumb drive of studio and production footage.

The workshops will be conducted by A.C. Weary, a member of the Directors Guild of America who has photographed documentaries, sitcoms, commercials and soap operas; Ted Sharon, head of performance at the Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance who teaches iProduction and acting for media; and Eric Hartmann, who owns and operates a film production company and has worked as a cinematographer, photographer, film editor and motion graphics designer.

Registration fees are $295 for commuting students, $695 for the residence package that includes 17 meals and six chaperoned nights of lodging on campus. Non-resident students are to bring their lunch each day.
