Learning Shakespeare

The Midsummer Shakes-peare Intensive, a unique, all-inclusive overnight camp for students, ages 15 and up, which focuses on the works of William Shakespeare, will be conducted July 20 to 26 at SUNY Fredonia’s College Lodge in Brocton.

Specialized training will be offered through three studio courses: “Words, Words, Words: Shakespeare’s Language,” “And They Fight: Unarmed and Armed Stage Combat,” and “Action to the Word: Physical Character Creation.”

Morning studio sessions will focus on acting, voice and movement, while afternoon and evening sessions will be devoted to stage combat, rehearsals and Shakespearean master classes.

An open air production of an edited version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be presented at the lodge on July 26 at 3 p.m.

Check-in and welcoming of students will be held on the evening of July 19.

The camp is being conducted by Department of Theatre and Dance, led by Tom Loughlin, chair; Ted Sharon, head of performance; and senior Nakiya Peterkin. The enrollment fee is $575.

Additional information and registration form can be obtained by contacting Sharon at Sharon@fredonia.edu or by calling 410-3597.
