GOWANDA — The Thespian Society at Gowanda High School is hard at work rehearsing for its upcoming production of “You Can’t Beat the House,” which takes center stage Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The community is warmly invited to attend and support the cast and crew working so hard to bring this family-friendly comedy to the village.

In “You Can’t Beat the House,” two inept burglars enter a home with the intent to rob it only to find out the house is for sale. They begin to make their exit when a young couple arrives to view the home. The burglars pretend to be real estate agents long enough to get the couple to leave. Then the actual real estate agent arrives. No matter what these two do to “beat” the house, they just keep getting visitors that force them to remain, well, in the house. The screwball comedy revolves around one mishap after another as the two burglars juggle the act until they get a chance to escape. This is a fun show for all ages and a good laugh for the entire family.

The cast includes: Senior Pierce Lukanaitis as Merle; sophomore Rowan Mentley Peters as Howie; junior Zach Nash as Conrad Spears; senior Alexa Urbaniak as Glenda Spears; freshman Emma Christopher as Courtney Parfait; junior Andie Baco as Lillian; junior William Sylvia as Officer Larraby; sophomore Jessup Donohue as Madame Zenobia; junior Paige Gabel as Brittany Marie; sophomore Grace Wakefield as Fern Larraby. Director is high school English teacher Mr. John Jarzynski, assistant to the director is junior Olivia Pawlak, and producer is Mrs. Sue Rebmann. The play is being produced by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Services.

Cost is $5 for those age 19-64 and $3 for those age 5-18 and those age 65 and up. Children under age 5 may attend free. Please note: A special free preview for senior citizens is planned Thursday, Jan. 31 from 1 to 2 p.m.
