Assistant professor, guest artist teaming for Fredonia recital

Assistant Professor Leonidas F. Lagrimas

“Musical Journeys,” a rare chance for audiences to experience a recital for piano duo and four-hand duet, will be presented by pianist and School of Music Assistant Professor Leonidas F. Lagrimas and guest artist Dr. Brendan Jacklin, a Canadian pianist currently based in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m.

The recital, in Rosch Recital Hall at the State University of New York at Fredonia, is free and open to the public.

While many audiences will remember the experience of playing piano duets from their childhood lessons, this recital offers a contemporary take on the piano duet format, Dr. Lagrimas explained. “Our recital is comprised entirely of 20th and 21st century contemporary composers, each offering their own unique take on writing for piano duet,” he said.

Lagrimas decided to make his first faculty recital at Fredonia a piano duo recital because he believes audiences do not get to experience this unique and wonderful recital format too often.

“Many times audiences have a set image and perception of what a classical piano recital is like — my hope is that our recital gets people to view classical music with a refreshed perspective and explore the music of contemporary composers,” Lagrimas said.
