Opera House to screen ‘Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice’

The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice,” a documentary about the retired pop star. It will be screened on Saturday, Oct. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

“Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice” is a musical biography of one of the most successful and versatile female singers of the 20th century — and one of the most successful recording artists of all time. At the height of unprecedented success, Ronstadt turned away from pop music to explore an astonishing variety of musical styles. Withstanding constant pressure from a risk-averse industry, she insisted on following her musical instincts. Ultimately, her singing voice was stilled by illness and forced her into retirement, but her music and influence remain as timeless as ever.

Owen Gleiberman, in Variety, says the film “captures the life and career of a rock ‘n’ roll star who never looked back, never apologized, never compromised, virtually never made a wrong move, and made it all seem effortless.” Katie Walsh, in the Tribune News Service, calls it “a beautiful, deeply moving and well-deserved tribute to this utterly singular woman and her talent.” Mike McGranaghan, in Aisle Seat, calls it “an appealing celebration of a musical artist who can literally sing anything and knock your socks off.” Rated PG-13 for brief strong language and drug material, “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice” runs one hour, 35 minutes.

The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 716-679-1891.
