The Fredonia Guitar Quartet is on tour in central New York, performing at Henrietta-Rush Senior High School today, at 2 p.m.; Unatego Junior-Senior High School on Friday, at 12:40 p.m. and Onondaga Community College, also Friday, at 7 p.m.

Members of the quartet, under the direction of SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski at the State University of New York at Fredonia, are students Steven Wong (senior, Sound Recording Technology and Music Performance), of Lancaster; Michael Bunny (junior, Music Performance), Niagara Falls; Pennington Watson (junior, Music Performance), East Aurora; and Shane Bucci (senior, Music Performance), Otego.

“This particular quartet has now been together since January, and they are playing at a very high level, both in virtuosity and in artistry. The program that they will perform is wonderful, because it is compelling, beautiful, unusual and quite varied,” Piorkowski said.

Musical selections to be featured on the tour include: “Estampas,” by Federico Moreno-Torroba, which consists of a series of eight musically depicted scenes from Spain; the fiery “Comme un Tango,” by Patrick Roux; “Cuba Libre,” by Matthew Dunne; “Rolando” by Piorkowski, and an arrangement by quartet member Bunny of “On Reflection,” by the ’70s English progressive rock band Gentle Giant.
