Gowanda High School announces January Students of the Month

Miranda Kaminski

Several students from Gowanda High School were recognized as Students of the Month of January 2020 for emulating The 4 C’s: creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication, which are integral to the district’s mission.

Aurora Bartlett, a freshman, was lauded for her critical thinking skills by living environment teacher Ms. Margaret King. Aurora works through her assignments by annotating in the margins to show her thought process and asking questions or adding prior knowledge comments to attack when she is unsure about problems. By using her critical thinking skills to methodically work through problems, Aurora demonstrates her mastery of the 4 C’s on a daily basis.

Daunte Reims, a sophomore, was appreciated for his communication skills. GHS counselor Jennifer Mattimore says Daunte is “such a joy to have within our school community.” He is able to problem solve and utilize the tools he learned to navigate his day with success. He has a gentle soul and is a positive force in our high school.

John Ondus, a freshman, was hailed for his critical thinking skills, which are exceptional in geometry. Teacher Mr. Richard Weber says that while doing geometry proofs, John is able to understand the problem, organize the facts and then develop effective solutions. He is a respectful and hard-working student that strives for excellence daily in the math classroom. Through his perseverance John currently has a 95 overall average in geometry.

Sarah Noyes, a sophomore, was recognized for her creativity. Mrs. Kathryn Haim, her teacher, says Sarah always thinks outside of the box when it comes to her projects for Global 10. She works at her own pace and creates artwork that is stunning and memorable. She’s worked extra diligently this past quarter to get her work done in a more timely manner. She is also one the kindest students Mrs. Haim has and she loves “The Office.” She’s a very thoughtful and creative person.

Miranda Kaminski, a sophomore, was singled out for her collaborative approach to success in the classroom and on stage. She exemplifies what it means to work well with others and, more important, she has the confidence in herself to not be afraid of failure. As a result, she accepts challenges and strives to be the best she can be, according to teacher Mr. John Jarzynski.

Congratulations to these outstanding Panthers on this well-deserved recognition and also to our Student Council for this positively Panther news.
