Tuesday evening, May 4, is the next to last opportunity to learn about Starting a Successful Home Garden through the virtual series presented by Leigh Rovegno, Audubon Community Nature Center executive director. Leigh Rovegno, Audubon Community Nature Center executive director, will present the fifth in her virtual seven-part series, Starting a Successful Home Garden, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4.

The presentation focuses on Planting Seedlings and Seeds Outdoors.

Prior to coming to Audubon, Rovegno worked at a variety of organic farms located in places including New Hampshire, Italy, and Colorado.

She shares her tips and tricks on what supplies to have on-hand, favorite seed varieties, and how to make the most of available garden space.

Programs are designed for beginner or intermediate gardeners, including children 9 years and older interested in nurturing their green thumbs.

Different topics are covered each time. Previous participation is not necessary to be part of this or the classes that remain through early June.

With no more than nine other participants, the programs are an opportunity to learn gardening from a pro without leaving one’s home. Those attending can ask questions and interact at the end of the class, as well as receive detailed notes to ensure a home garden’s success.

The fee is $8 or $6 for Nature Center members and children ages 9 through 15. Paid reservations for the May 4 class are required by Saturday, May 1. Register by going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Upcoming Programs.”

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. While practicing safe social distancing measures, visit six miles of trails on the 600-acre nature preserve from dawn to dusk daily. The Nature Center building includes the Blue Heron Gift Shop, live animals, and the winning photographs from the 2020 Nature Photography Contest.
