Gowanda woman charged under Leandra’s Law

HANOVER – A Gowanda woman was charged under Leandra’s Law on Sunday evening in the town of Hanover. Patricia A. Lipowicz, 47, of Route 62 was charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI with a passenger under 15 violating Leandra’s Law, failure to keep right, unsafe lane change, aggravated unlicensed operation and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

At 6:45 p.m. deputies observed Lipowicz’s vehicle driving to the left of the center of the roadway on Alleghany Road for no apparent reason. Lipowicz then drove east on Routes 5 and 20 using both eastbound lanes. During a traffic stop, it was found that Lipowicz was found to be intoxicated and had an 8-year-old passenger in the vehicle. She was arraigned in Hanover Town Court and sent to Chautauqua County Jail.

Two-car accident sends one to hospital

HANOVER – A two-car accident sent one to the hospital on June 21. Just before 4 p.m. Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at the intersection of Alleghany and Versailles roads.

Dylan W. Delong, 21, of Irving was traveling north on Alleghany Road and was struck by a vehicle operated by Phyllis Nigro, 61, of Depew who was traveling west on Versailles Road.

Nigro allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign, struck Delong’s vehicle causing her vehicle to roll over. Nigro was transported by Starflight to ECMC for her injuries. The investigation is continuing.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

FRENCH CREEK – Joel H. Austin, 43, of Sherman was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, uninspected motor vehicle, unlicensed operation, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more on June 21.

Deputies observed Austin’s vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection at Redding Road and French Creek-Mina Road in the town of French Creek at 4:18 a.m. The vehicle was stopped and Austin was found to be intoxicated. He was released on an appearance ticket for the French Creek Town Court.

HANOVER – Dakota J. Thompson, 21, of Perrysburg was charged with third-degree criminal mischief on June 21. Thompson was charged following an investigation into an incident that happened on June 2 at Primo’s Restaurant on Routes 5 and 20.

Thompson allegedly kicked a vehicle in the parking lot and damage was caused. Thompson was released on an appearance ticket for Hanover Town Court.

HANOVER – Christina Klusek, 31, of Forestville was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more and failure to stop at a stop sign on June 22.

Deputies stopped Klusek’s vehicle for failure to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Iola Drive and Alleghany Road in the town of Hanover at 1:34 a.m.

It was found that Klusek was intoxicated. She was released on an appearance ticket for Hanover Town Court.

HANOVER – Michael A. Jones, 40, of Gowanda was charged with having an open container on June 22. At 12:13 a.m. deputies on foot patrol at the Hanover Beach found Jones in possession of an open container.

He was released on an appearance ticket for Hanover Town Court.

SILVER CREEK – Brian L. Nowak, 27, of Silver Creek was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation on June 22.

At 7:50 p.m. deputies responded to a vehicle complaint on Lafayette Street in the village of Silver Creek. Nowak was found to be the operator and under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

He was also found to be in possession of a set of metal knuckles and was operating under an expired learner’s permit.

Nowak was released on an appearance ticket for Silver Creek Village Court.
