Baseball bat use on car is strike against Ripley man

RIPLEY – A 43-year-old Ripley resident was sent to Chautauqua County Jail after allegedly using a baseball bat to damage a vehicle occupied by multiple young children.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies reported James P. Simpson was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree menacing and third-degree criminal mischief. The harassment incident occurred on West Main Street around 7:20 p.m. Friday.

He was arraigned in Ripley Town Court and bail was set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 property.

ATV accident sends man to hospital

CHARLOTTE – A Sinclairville man was sent to the hospital following an all-terrain vehicle accident Saturday morning. According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Kenneth J. Wisniewski, 57, of Mill Creek Road was operating his ATV alongside of Mill Creek Road when he lost control for an unknown reason. The ATV went off the road and rolled over causing Wisniewski to be ejected. He sustained a back injury and was treated on scene by Sinclairville Rescue but was later transported to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., by Starflight. The investigation is continuing and charges may be pending.

Fredonia Police Department

Christopher Small, 39, of Brocton was charged with driving an unregistered all-terrain vehicle without insurance and operating said vehicle unlawfully on a highway on Monday.

A two-car accident occurred on Monday at the intersection of Lakeway Drive and Brigham Road. According to a police report, around 9:45 a.m., Jaclyn Appleby, 23, of Allegany was traveling west on Lakeway Drive when she entered onto Brigham Road without yielding to Jessica Sobczak, 25, of Wisteria Drive. Sobczak was traveling north on Brigham Road and was unable to avoid striking Appleby, causing damage to the front end of her vehicle and the front driver’s side of Appleby’s vehicle.
