CHARLOTTE – An 18-year-old man may be facing charges after he was injured in an accident Saturday morning on Route 60.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies reported Joshua L. Schultze of Bennett Road, Forestville, was operating his sports utility vehicle northbound on Route 60 when he left the road on the west side and struck a telephone pole at 11:50 a.m. Upon impact, the vehicle overturned and struck a tree.

Schulze was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk with minor injuries. The Sinclairville and Cassadaga fire departments assisted deputies at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.

• GERRY – Joshua D. Hall, 31, of Jamestown was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on Saturday after deputies investigated a vehicle in a ditch on Route 380 around 1 a.m. Subsequent investigation revealed Hall was allegedly in possession of several pills not in a prescribed container. • SHERMAN – Deputies and the Sherman Fire Department responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on West Main Street at 12:57 a.m. Saturday. Following an investigation, it was alleged that Tara D. VanVolkenburg, 21, of Sherman was operating a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix westbound on Main Street and was distracted by cell phone use when she crossed over the center of the roadway and struck a street sign and a utility pole, damaging both. VanVolkenburg was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated. She provided a blood alcohol content of .08 or greater and was charged for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. VanVolkenburg was also charged with failure to keep right and operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone. She is scheduled to answer to charges in Sherman Town Court at a later date. There were no injuries as a result of the crash.

• SHERMAN – At approximately 12:47 a.m. Saturday, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a vehicle on Clymer-Sherman Road. Investigation revealed passengers in the vehicle, Daniel Schlabach of Rochester Mills, Pa., and Ernest Bender Jr. of Panama, to be in possession of alcohol while under the age of 21. Both Schlabach and Bender were issued appearance tickets and released to appear in Sherman Town Court at a later date.

Gowanda Police Department

Brian C. Kendall, 42, of Route 62 was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree harassment on Oct. 6. Police responded to an alleged disturbance on Perry Street at 1:30 a.m. Kendall, who appeared intoxicated, allegedly yelled profanities at, threatened and pushed a female acquaintance. Kendall allegedly tried to flee from police but was apprehended following a brief foot chase. He was released to appear in Collins Town Court at a later date.

Darren Warrior, 27, of Buffalo Street was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and child endangerment on Tuesday. Police responded to Buffalo Street for an alleged burglary at 6:30 a.m. Warrior, who appeared intoxicated, allegedly kicked in two separate doors to forcibly gain entry into an apartment. Once inside, Warrior began an altercation with a resident and refused several requests to leave all in the presence of two children. Warrior was arraigned in Collins Town Court and released on $1,000 bail.

Lawrence A. Nadeau, 36, of Kenmore was charged on a bench warrant on Thursday. Police had arrested Nadeau for larceny but he failed to appear in couRoute Police were notified Nadeau was in the Collins Town Court for an unrelated charge. He was arraigned in Persia Town Court and sent to the Cattaraugus County Jail on $5,000 bail.
