Dunkirk bicyclist allegedly injured by drunk driver

A 56-year-old Dunkirk man was sent to the hospital after he was allegedly struck by a drunk driver in Fredonia Friday morning.

According to an accident report by the Fredonia Police Department, around 3:30 a.m., Joseph Grekalski, 29, of Frewsburg was traveling eastbound on East Main Street near Route 60 when he turned left to travel onto the access road for Tim Hortons and McDonald’s.

Grekalski allegedly turned into the path of James Mikula of North Zebra Street (who was on his bicycle), causing Mikula to strike the driver’s side front corner of the vehicle.

Mikula was transported to Brooks Memorial Hos-pital via Alstar Ambulance. The extent of his injuries was unclear.

Grekalski was charged with failure to yield the right of way, driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of more than .18 percent.
