Jamestown police probe situation near school

JAMESTOWN — Jamestown police are investigating a suspicious situation involving a student walking to school near Burr Place and Price Street this morning.

Police and the Jamestown Public Schools District report a man approaching a 12-year-old child as the child was walking to school. The man allegedly drove up alongside the child, offered the child a ride to school and then allegedly asked for the child’s phone number. The child did not communicate with the man, went directly to Washington Middle School and reported the incident.

The vehicle is described as a red pickup truck with chrome wheels. The man is described as being a black male with a high ponytail in his hair.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the man is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department at 483-7537 or leave an anonymous tip at 483-TIPS or the Tips 411 App. All calls and tips are kept confidential.

Dunkirk Police Department

¯ On May 22, Jean Montalvo, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and unregistered motor vehicle.

¯ On May 23, Andrew T. Messina, 23, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and inadequate lights.

¯ On May 23, Kevin M. O’Brien, 59, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

¯ On May 24, Nathaniel S. Halpainy, 24, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding in zone.

¯ On Sunday, Kristiana M. Rivera, 19, of Olean was charged with DWI, DWI per se, fourth-degree criminal mischief, vehicular assault, unsafe lane change, parking on highway and leaving the scene of an accident.

¯ On Monday, Wilfredo Hernandez-Mercado, 36, of Dunkirk was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, fourth-degree criminal mischief and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

¯ On Monday, Lindsey M. Mead, 32, of Fredonia was charged with suspended registration.

¯ On Tuesday, Sarah C. Morin, 32, of Westfield was charged with DWI, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, failure to use turning signal and unsafe lane change.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office

CASSADAGA — On Sunday at 11:17 p.m., sheriff’s deputies observed a vehicle commit a violation on Route 60 in the village of Cassadaga. Police stopped the vehicle and identified the operator to be Terrell K. Hopkins, 25, of Hamburg.

Following an investigation, Hopkins was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana and a controlled substance. Deputies charged Hopkins with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and speed in zone. He will answer these charges in the town of Stockton court at a later date.
