Stabbing incident leads to assault charge

KIANTONE — A south county man is in Chautauqua County Jail following a stabbing incident over the weekend.

Troopers with the New York State Police were called Sunday to a Kiantone residence for a reported domestic dispute.

An investigation found that during an argument, 37-year-old Joseph Piazza of Jamestown stabbed a woman with a knife then fled the scene. He was located at a nearby residence and taken into custody.

Piazza was processed and transported to jail for centralized arraignment. He was charged with second-degree assault.

The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Celoron man accused of stealing brass facing felony charge

ELLICOTT — A Celoron man accused of stealing more than $8,000 in brass for nearly two years from his place of employment is facing a felony charge.

The Ellicott Police Department on Monday announced the arrest of 44-year-old William R. Finch following an investigation. The department had heard from a local business that reported missing “a large amount of brass hardware.”

Officers learned that an employee of the business had allegedly been removing the brass on a daily basis and would then scrap the brass at a local scrap yard.

The larceny began in October 2019 and continued through July 2021. Finch was found to have taken more than $8,000 in material during that time; he is scheduled to appear in Ellicott Town Court later.

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

¯ ELLERY — Brendan O’Keefe, 31, of Kenmore, was charged with driving while intoxicated and DWI per se.

Deputies responded at 11:48 p.m. Sunday to check on a man reportedly passed out in a vehicle on Route 430 and Lewis Road in the town of Ellery. The man was identified as O’Keefe, who was found to be intoxicated.

O’Keefe is scheduled to appear in Ellery Town Court later.
