Construction wraps up at Gowanda Medical Center

GOWANDA – It’s the start of new beginnings in Gowanda as medical providers for TLC Health Network opens the expanded and renovated Gowanda Urgent Care & Medical Center.

Picone Construction Corp. was prime contractor in the completion of the 5,000 square foot addition to the center located at 34 Commercial Street in Gowanda.

This expansion was created to accommodate a new waiting/reception area, nurse’s station, six exam rooms, mammography room, ultrasound room, office space and a physical therapy/cardiac rehabilitation room.

Picone Construction was responsible for the installation of wood framing, Pella Windows, Hardie Board Siding, shingle roof, and spray insulation. In addition, the interior work consisted of a concrete slab with Barrier One additive, metal stud walls, drywall, painting, acoustical ceiling tiles, millwork, trim, doors, flooring, and toilet accessories.

The Gowanda facility offers walk-in urgent care services for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries and for those who need medical attention not serious enough to warrant a trip to the Emergency Department. Typical injuries treated at the Urgent Care Center include bumps, bruises, strains, sprains, cuts, scrapes, and cold and flu symptoms. The facility also offers primary care services by appointment for patients of all ages, from newborn to adults. These services range from diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses to immunizations, gynecologic services, preventative services, wellness exams, and laboratory services. New patients are being accepted, and appointments can be made by calling (716)532-8100.

Prior to the renovations and construction, the facility at 34 Commercial Street offered both Urgent Care and Primary Care services with patients entering through two separate entrances. Now, thanks in part to a New York State HEAL grant, patients will have the ease of one convenient entrance and admissions process with additional state-of-the-art exam rooms. A new waiting room with space for up to 30 patients is offered at the new location. The building hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.

New technology and services are also being located in the Commercial Street facility. Officials are announcing the start of on-site Physical Therapy for patients at the Gowanda location. In addition, ultrasound and digital mammography will complement existing services which include digital X-rays and blood draws.

“We are pleased to be able to offer theses added features for area residents,” John Galati, TLC Health Network interim CEO, explained. “The new services help us create a convenient, one-stop location for primary care, urgent care, laboratory services, physical therapy and imaging services all under one roof.”

TLC officials said they are pleased to announce the continuing roster of familiar faces and service providers at the newly-expanded Gowanda location.

“You’ll be treated by the same caring, competent team as in the past,” Galati noted. Continuing to lead the team in Gowanda is medical director Joel Yoviene, M.D. and Urgent Care supervisor Tera Ciesla, PA.

“We have been anticipating this new, permanent home along with our patients since 2009,” Dr. Yoviene said. “And it appears to be worth the wait.”

Galati and the staff of TLC Health Network have expressed their gratitude to the community for their support of the project, their patience, and their patronage especially during construction.

“We are so thankful to be able to serve our community in this beautiful new facility,” Lauralee Sprague, nurse practitioner at Gowanda Urgent Care & Medical Center, said. “Our patients have been incredibly loyal and understanding during the transition since the flood. This new building will be a great resource for helping to continue providing the highest level of care to our patients.”
