NYSOA installs new officers, president from Jamestown

The New York State Optometric Association elected its new officers during the Association’s 119th Annual Meeting held on Feb. 2 in Lake Placid. The members of the Association gather annually to share knowledge and experience and to build professional networks and relationships.

The New York State Optometric Association was founded in 1895 and represents over 1,000 doctors of optometry statewide. It is dedicated to enhancing the vision care and health of the public and promoting the art and science of optometry.

For over 11 decades, it has continued to benefit individual doctors of optometry, the profession and the quality of life of New Yorkers.

NYSOA plays a significant role in how optometry is perceived by other professions, government agencies and the public at large.

Dr. Christopher J. Col-burn, O.D, F.A.A.O. was in-stalled as president of NYSOA. Dr. Colburn is with Spectrum Eyecare in Jamestown. He has also served as the association’s president-elect, vice presi-dent, treasurer and secretary between the years of 2005 and 2014.

In 2009, Dr. Colburn was a recipient of NYSOA’s Young O.D. of the Year Award. He is also the current member of the Ameri-can Optometric Associa-tion’s State Government Relations Committee and serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Southern Chautau-qua County. Dr. Colburn holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from Pennsylvania State Univer-sity and a doctor of opt-ometry from SUNY College of Optometry. He did his family practice residency with the University of Ala-bama at Birmingham. He lives in Lakewood with his children.

All officers’ terms of office will begin on May 15 and they will serve for a period of one year.

NYSOA is a non-profit, individual, membership org-anization which works with local affiliated optometric associations throughout New York state and is affiliated with the American Optometric Association.

Members practice in a variety of settings, including their own private offices, in association with other optometrists and ophthalmologists, and in hospital clinics and health maintenance organizations.
