Westfield Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market opens Saturday

WESTFIELD – The popular Westfield Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market opens its eighth season Saturday at 9 a.m. in Moore Park. Shoppers will see many familiar vendors and some new faces, too. The Market features local products grown by or made by our vendors, and shoppers can choose from fresh fruits and vegetables, grass fed meats, local eggs, baked goods, soap, maple syrup, honey and a wide variety of hand-crafted items ranging from soap to sculpture.

Guitarist Tom Troccoli will perform his repertoire of rock, blues, jazz and folk. Ivory Wind Acres owners Rachel Gardner and Sean Mapes have purchased a food truck and they will be providing hot food items from a menu built around their own farm-raised, grass-fed meats.

Hungry shoppers can follow their noses to their Main Street location. The farmers’ market organization will serve hot coffee from the information booth near the gazebo.

Not-for-profit organizations will be present this year. Groups like the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Westfield Barcelona Chamber Committee will use the Market opportunity to share information and engage in fundraising activity.

For example, on June 14 the Westfield Stray Cat Rescue will have a chicken BBQ and fashion show to during market hours.

Special events this year include the Art in the Park exhibition and hands on activities for children and adults on July 19 and on August 2 the Market will host a Blueberry Festival. A blueberry pancake breakfast, blueberry bakeoff and blueberry cookoff are planned for that event.

New this year, Toboggan Hill Farm and Hathaway Farm, will be able to process EBT purchases as well as WIC (Woman, Infants and Children Program) and FMNP (Farmers Market Nutrition Program) checks.

The market is open each Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., from Memorial Day weekend through September in Moore Park, at the intersection of Portage Street (Route 394) and Main Street (Route 20) in Westfield.
