AAA to offer 5-hour pre-licensing course in Dunkirk

AAA Western and Central New York will hold a five-hour pre-licensing course at Jamestown Community College’s North Campus, 10807 Bennett Road in Dunkirk on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course is a required pre-requisite for all new drivers to receive their New York State driver’s license.

AAA instructors will guide students through driving fundamentals, like the DMV point system, the highway transportation system, the laws of physics as they relate to driving and the effects of restraining devices. Students will also learn defensive driving techniques, the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving, as well as what to do in case of a collision and the effects of driver attitude, emotions and skills. Upon course completion, students will receive an MV-278 certificate. This certificate number is required to schedule a road test and the certificate must be presented to the examiner on the day of the test.

Dunkirk Farmers Market now open

The Dunkirk Farmers and Artisans Market is now open two days a week at Memorial Park in Dunkirk. Sponsored by D & F Travel, the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, and the Dunkirk Community Chamber of Commerce, the market will operate Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call the Dunkirk Community Chamber at 366-6200.

Crafters sought for ‘Fly-In’ event

The Dunkirk Rotary Club seeks crafters and vendors interested in being part of its annual Fly-In Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon on July 14 at the Dunkirk Airport. The club welcomes crafters who provide handmade crafts, fine art and gourmet food products.

A limited number of indoor spaces will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Crafter booth spaces are $25 for a single 10- by 10-foot space, or you may purchase a double space for $40. Tables and chairs will be provided if requested. For more information, call 366-3000, ext. 401.
