Koffee Klotch Sunday

A Koffee Klotch for horse people will be held at the Cherry Creek Inn, 1022 West Road, Route 68, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Cattaraugus/Chautauqua Chapter of the NYSHC. Sled dog race needs radio operators

The Cattaraugus County Amateur Radio Emergency Service team is in need of radio operators for March 1 and 2. This is for a Can-Am dog sled race in Allegany State Park. Radio operators, or hams, will man several checkpoints in the park. Races start at 8:30 a.m. each day. There will be a short distance and a long distance race both days. CORE pesticide

training and exam

to be held March 11

The Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory, 6592 W. Main Road, Portland will host a CORE training session prior to the private and commercial New York state pesticide examinations on March 11. The training session will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., in the CLEREL meeting room. The cost is $15. The training session is de-signed as a review prior to take the exam but is not required to take the exam. Pre-register by March 4. The exam will take place at 1 p.m., in the CLEREL meeting room. The cost is $100 and the registration deadline is Monday. To register, call the DEC at 851-7220 to be sent an exam application form and test instructions.

Questions about test eligibility status should be directed to the DEC office. For commercial applicants, the “CORE Manual” and category manual for the area in which you will be certifying is needed; for private applicators, applicants will need the “CORE Manual” plus the private category manual for the area which you will be certifying. CORE and category training manuals are available through the Cornell Store or by calling 1-800-624-4080.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy to host

informational session

The Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host an informational session and tour on its campus at 8115 Glasgow Road in Cassadaga today at 10 a.m. The Cassadaga Job Corps provides training to begin a career in the health care and construction industries as well as high school equivalency classes to those in need of a diploma.

The Academy will accept young adults, age 16-24, who are committed to a rigorous education and training program that are prepared to launch a career.

Applicants can apply for on-center living or off center living, and all applicants will enroll on a full federal scholarship if accepted.

Gas prices rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have risen 2.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.61/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has increased 5.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.34/g.

Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 29.8 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 1.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

The national average has increased 6.1 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 34.3 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.
