City brush pickup for September

The City of Dunkirk Public Works Department announces that brush pickup will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 4 in District A. District B will be picked up the week of Sept. 10. District C will be picked up the week of Sept. 17 and District D will be picked up the week of Sept. 24.

Brush must be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday of the respective collection week but no earlier than the previous Saturday. City crews will collect each area only once. Brush placed at the curb after the crews pass by will not be collected and will be ticketed as a violation of the City Code and property owners will be prosecuted. Brush should be bundled with string or twine no more than 4′ long, diameter of no more than 18″ and shall weigh no more than 65 pounds. Bundles should be placed between the sidewalk and curb but should not be placed near any posts, trees, water or sewer boxes, etc. which could be damaged during removal operations. Brush placed on City property other than the area fronting the respective residential property will be ticketed.

City residents may also drop brush off at the Public Works facility on Lucas Avenue. When dumping, note the separate pile for leaves, pine and other woods. Please do not mix.

Elevation Combat Sports Academy to host FIT EXPO 2018

A free fitness expo will be held Friday, from 4-9 p.m. at ECSA 87 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk. The event will feature group fitness exercise classes including Zumba, POUND and PiYo from 6-9 p.m.

Many vendors will be on site selling merchandise and Weidner’s chicken dinners will available starting at 4 p.m.

First Ward Falcon Club annual street dance

The First Ward Falcon Club, located at 341 Lake Shore Drive E., Dunkirk, will host its annual street dance this Friday through Sunday.

On Friday evening, the whole family is invited to the outdoor children’s movie at dusk in the Serval Street parking lot. Munchies will be provided. This event is free to the public and takes place weather permitting.

On Saturday from 7-11 p.m., enjoy live outdoor music will be provided by the “Roadrunners Band.” The group plays music from the past and present. All in attendance can dance and listen to their favorite tunes.

On Sunday from 7-11 p.m., live outdoor music for all ages will be provided by “Rocketship 7.” Dance and listen to this awesome group.

Food and refreshment vendors will be available all weekend. This is an outdoor event. Inclement weather may force bands to perform indoors.

Start Sunday off right with a chicken barbecue dinner prepared by Weidner’s Barbecue. The cost is $10 with eat in or take out dinner options sold from noon until sold out. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Club.
