Bike, Bus run today

The Citizens Assisting Veterans annual Sept. 11 Bike and Bus Run is slated for today at the Brocton American Legion J W Dill Post 434, located at 110 W. Main St., Brocton.

The event is $20 per person. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes a meal upon return.

Evans Garden Club to meet Tuesday

The Evans Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The meeting will be held at the Angola Library, 34 N. Main St., Angola. A “Plants as Medicine” presentation will be given by Ken Parker, director of Horticultural and Native Plant Consult for Buffalo/Niagara, NY Area Project. All are invited to attend.

Chautauqua Opportunities presents Dementia Basics

Chautauqua Opportunities will present an informational workshop “Dementia Basics” on Tuesday from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., at the Lutheran Hultquist Place, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown. Order of Eastern Star news

The County Eastern Star Past Matrons will meet at Forestville Masonic Hall, Main Street, Forestville on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Forestville Chapter of Eastern Stars will also meet Sept. 18 for a tureen dinner at 6 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday remembrance ceremony

Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Auxiliary unit monthly meetings will resume on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Post 62, 211 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Plans for the upcoming year will be discussed. Prior to the meeting, a 9/11 remembrance ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. for members and guests.

The Dunkirk Fire Department/Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Local 616 will be hosting its annual Sept. 11 ceremony on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Fire Headquarters, 311 Eagle St. Dunkirk. The public is welcome to attend.

Fredonia BOE to meet Tuesday

The Fredonia Board of Education will hold a Regular Meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the High School Library.

Lakeshore Humane Society to hold Pet Adoption Evening

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a “Adoption Evening” on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The center is located at 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk. Come to see the facility, and meet some of the dogs and cats who need caring homes.

If unable to attend, call 672-1991 to arrange an appointment to see the dogs and cats awaiting adoption.

Support Local Contestants at Toastmasters’ Humorous Speech and Evaluation Competition Wednesday

Richard Friemann and Jim Rawcliffe from Fredonia are two of the contestants taking part in the Toastmasters’ Humorous Speaking and Evaluation contest to be held at SUNY Fredonia, Jewett Hall, Room 118 on Wednesday. Rawcliffe, a long-time Toastmaster of over 20 years, has set his skills to outwit the competition in style. Together these two Fredonia residents are looking to take the club skills to the next level, to be located at the Jamestown Library on Saturday, Oct. 13.
