Forestville Board of Education workshop cancelled

The Forestville Board of Education budget workshop scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 31 is cancelled.

Lakeshore Humane Society holds weekly open hours

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold Open Hours at its Adoption Center today from 6 to 8 p.m. Open Hours are held each Wednesday evening to give the public a consistent mid-week opportunity to meet the cats and dogs in need of caring homes, as well as ask questions and see the facility. The center is located at 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk.

If unable to come on Wednesday, please call 672-1991 to arrange an appointment to see the dogs and cats awaiting adoption, or come to the LHS Adoption Day on Feb. 2. (You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt a pet.)

While at the LHS Adoption Center, check out the “Cat’s Meow” Boutique, where you can find pet-related items, while supporting the Lakeshore Humane Society! Call 672-1991 or see www.lakeshorehumanesociety.org for more information.

Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club annual meeting

set for Sunday

The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 N. Mullet St., Dunkirk, will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. sharp. Doors will be locked at 1 p.m. The meeting is for members only. Dues must be in by Jan. 31. There will be a Super Football party at 6 p.m.

Flapjack Fundraiser supports high school musical in Silver Creek

The public is invited to a Flapjack Fundraiser to support the spring 2019 Silver Creek High School musical “Little Shop of Horrors” on Feb. 16 from 8-10 a.m. at Applebee’s, 3908 Vineyard Drive, Dunkirk.

Menu: Unlimited bacon and pancakes plus milk, orange juice, coffee, tea or water. Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3 for kids 12 and under.

Chili Cookoff Contest slated Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019

SILVER CREEK — Something spicy, saucy, special and super is cooking in the village.

The Performing Arts Booster Club for the Silver Creek Central School District is hosting its inaugural Super Bowl Weekend Chili Cookoff Contest on Saturday, in the high school cafeteria from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the public is warmly invited.

Local businesses and individuals including Cabana Sam’s, Sunset Bay Restaurant, Om Nohm Bakery and more will offer tastings. Admission is $5 and will give you three votes for the best chili in the area. All profits benefit Performing Arts students in Silver Creek.

If you make killer chili (or you know someone who does!) and are interested in entering as a competitor, please e-mail pmcmullen@silvercreekschools.org as soon as possible.

First prize is $50 plus a free full-page ad in the “Little Shop of Horrors” musical program for the high school in March while the runner-up will receive $25 plus a half-page ad in the forthcoming program.
