Old-fashioned Barn Dance set for today
An Old-fashioned Barn Dance will take place today from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Costs are: adults: $7, students: $5, ages 12 and under free. Dances include squares, contras, mixers and more. The event is beginner friendly, family friendly. No experience is needed. For details, call Joe at 679-8426.
Charlie Rodriguez House Fire Rebuild
benefit set for today
A Charlie Rodriguez House Fire Rebuild benefit will be held today from 3 to 7 p.m. or sold out at the American Legion Post 327, 7579 E. Route 20, Westfield. The $10 admission includes a spaghetti dinner or a roast beef sandwich. A child’s menu is available for $5. Other events include a Chinese auction, 50/50 and, DJ karaoke to follow. Pre-sale tickets are available by calling the Legion at 326-3924, or purchase tickets at the door.
Chili Cookoff Contest slated Saturday
SILVER CREEK — Something spicy, saucy, special and super is cooking in the village.
The Performing Arts Booster Club for the Silver Creek Central School District is hosting its inaugural Super Bowl Weekend Chili Cookoff Contest on Saturday, in the high school cafeteria from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the public is warmly invited.
Local businesses and individuals including Cabana Sam’s, Sunset Bay Restaurant, Om Nohm Bakery and more will offer tastings. Admission is $5 and will give you three votes for the best chili in the area. All profits benefit Performing Arts students in Silver Creek.

First prize is $50 plus a free full-page ad in the “Little Shop of Horrors” musical program for the high school in March while the runner-up will receive $25 plus a half-page ad in the forthcoming program.
Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club annual meeting set
The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, 1 N. Mullet St., Dunkirk, will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. sharp. Doors will be locked at 1 p.m. The meeting is for members only. Dues must be in by Jan. 31. There will be a Super Football party at 6 p.m.
Hanover Town taxes due Tuesday
Hanover town property owners are reminded Tuesday is the last day to pay 2019 county/town taxes penalty-free. Hanover Town Clerk Janine L. Salzman reminds Hanover taxpayers that taxes can be paid at the Hanover Town Clerk’s office, 68 Hanover Street, Silver Creek, during regular business hours. After Tuesday, a 1 percent penalty will be added to the bill until Feb. 28. From March 1 to April 1 taxes will be assessed at a 2 percent penalty.
