of Hanover seeks

nominees

The Democratic Party of the Town of Hanover encourages individuals with a passion for public service and a love of our community to consider running for office. Elections for the following positions will be held in November 2019: Town Justice, Town Clerk, Council Persons for the Hanover Town Board, as well as the Highway Superintendent. Candidates for Trustees on the Village of Silver Creek Board are also needed. Interested persons must reside in the Town of Hanover and should contact Deanna Borrello at 934-2410 or Martha Boutet at 410-0793. Please consider running for office and leading the Town into a prosperous future.

The Democratic Club will meet Thursday, March 14 at the VFW 13 Main St. Silver Creek at 7:30 PM. Come and bring potential members with you.

League of Women Voters to discuss prison reform

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the League of Women Voters will host a discussion on prison reform at the Clarion Hotel, 30 Lake Shore Drive East, in Dunkirk. Former Chautauqua County Jail warden and SUNY Fredonia Criminal Justice Professor Patrick Johnson will be the guest lecturer. Luncheon begins at noon; selections include Pasta Alfredo with Broccoli, Beef on Weck or Cobb Salad. Conservation Club Ladies Auxiliary to host monthly meeting

The Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club Ladies Auxiliary monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the club room, 1 N. Mullet St. in Dunkirk. Members are asked to attend to discuss upcoming events. New members are welcome to join.

Lakeshore Humane Society holds weekly Open Hours

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold Open Hours at its Adoption Center Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Open Hours will be held each Wednesday evening to give the public a consistent mid-week opportunity to meet the cats and dogs in need of caring homes, as well as ask questions and see the facility. The center is located at 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk.

If unable to come on Wednesday, call 672-1991 to arrange an appointment to see the dogs and cats awaiting adoption, or come to the next LHS Adoption Day on Feb. 16. (One must be 21 years of age or older to adopt a pet).

While at the LHS Adoption Center, check out the “Cat’s Meow” Boutique, where one can find pet-related items, while supporting the Lakeshore Humane Society! Also, note that there is a collection bin for refundable bottles and cans in the lobby of the Adoption Center, which benefits the LHS.

Sons of American Legion Squad 59 to host monthly meeting

The Sons of American Legion Squad 59 will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at Post 59, 156 E. Main St. in Fredonia. Commander Rob Dziduch will share information on the family picnic, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10 at Russell Joy Park. All members are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of every month.

Fredonia-Pomfret Democrats to meet today

The Fredonia-Pomfret Democrats will meet at 6:30 p.m. today at the Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia. All are welcome to attend.

Evans Garden Club to meet today

The Evans Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. today. The meeting will be held at the Angola Library, 34 N. Main St., Angola. The flight of the Monarch Butterfly presentation will be given by David O’Donnell. He is the president of the Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm and is also a self-taught naturalist. His bond with nature created and came with a constant awareness of the changing environment, and a need to promote recovery, conservation and protection. All are invited to attend.

Gowanda Central School District to hold POPS concert today

The Gowanda Central School District will hold a POPS concert today at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 10674 Prospect St. Gowanda. Performing groups will include Grades 7 to 12 Band and Grades 7/8 Chorus.

Sing-Along planned for Wednesday

A Community Sing-Along will be held Wednesday, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Join in a good old campfire sing-along in an indoor setting. All voices are welcome; the event is free for all. For details, call Joe at 679-8426.
