Public hearing for Ball Hill Wind set for Wednesday

The New York State Public Service Commission will hold a public statement hearing and procedural conference to receive comments on Ball Hill Wind Energy’s request for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for a planned wind electric generating facility in the towns of Hanover and Villenova. The hearing is set for Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. at Silver Creek Central School auditorium, 1 Dickinson St., Silver Creek.

Brocton/Portland Democratic Committee meeting today

The Brocton/Portland Democratic Committee is seeking candidates to run in the November 2019 general election. There are two four-year Town of Portland Council positions and County Legislator District 7. Anyone interested should attend the regular meeting and election of officers at the Portland Town Hall on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. The committee is always looking for new members. Family Breakfast

set for Sunday

Forest Lodge No. 166, F. & A.M. will be holding its monthly Sunday Family Breakfast this Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This all-you-can-eat breakfast will consist of eggs made to order, pancakes or French toast, sausages, fruit cocktail, toast, juice, milk, coffee and tea. Adults and teenagers 13 and up – $8, Children 6 to 12 – $4, and kids 5 and under are free. Public is welcome and cordially invited to attend, as is anyone interested in, or who has questions about Free Masonry. Forest Lodge is located at 321 E. Main St. (Route 20), Fredonia.

Barker Library to host wellness workshop

The Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia will host a free workshop: Walk Away from Stress and Anxiety today. The workshop will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. and will be led by Kristian Reiber, certified wellness coach. The workshop is free to attend and no pre-registration is required.

Gowanda Moose Lodge to host Daytona 500 pig roast Sunday

This Sunday, the Gowanda Moose Lodge, 201 Aldrich St., Gowanda, is hosting a Daytona 500 pig (pork) roast to raise funds for a new roof. Dinner tickets are $10 (eat-in or take-out) and include roasted pig, beans, salt potatoes, roll and dessert. Dinner is served from 1 p.m. until gone.

Fredonia Planning Board to meet Wednesday

The village of Fredonia Planning Board will meet at the Village Hall, 9-11 Church St., Fredonia, on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. This will be the regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning Board where they will discuss the new Brooks Memorial Hospital proposal for 412 East Main St. in Fredonia. Public comment or questions WILL be accepted during this Planning Board meeting.

The Sheridan Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at the Sheridan Fire Hall, 2800 Route 20, Sheridan. All members are encouraged to attend.

Fredonia Food Pantry open today

The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open today from 10 a.m. until noon at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, area code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.

Barker Library to host third annual kids/teens event

The Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia, invites kids and teens in grades five and up to take part in Kids Take Over the Library from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday. Even though it’s Presidents’ Day and the library is closed, kids and teens can enjoy a variety of activities including computers, movies, board and card games, LEGOs, puzzles, crafts, pizza, win prizes and more.

Learn how to download ebooks or audiobooks to your mobile device. All kids and teens in fifth grade and up are welcome. No pre-registration is necessary.

The next regular monthly meeting of the Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates will be held Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m., at the Kosciuszko Polish Home, 252 Nevins St., Dunkirk.

Gowanda Women of the Moose to host towel raffle party

On Sunday, Feb. 24, Women of the Moose 651 will host a towel raffle party at the Gowanda Moose Lodge, 201 Aldrich St. in Gowanda to raise funds for their community service project. Doors open at noon; games from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission boards are $4 and extra boards are $1. Win towels, washcloths and other prizes.

Other activities include chance auction, 50/50, 25-cent auction table, door prizes and more. The kitchen will be open and refreshments are available. Call 532-4882 for more information.

“Jazz at Domus Fare” set for Feb. 21

“Jazz at Domus Fare,” will take place at the restaurant, located at 41 W. Main St., Fredonia. the next date is Thursday, Feb. 21. There will be two seatings: one at 5:30 and the other at 8 p.m. This is part three of a four part season. Dinner will be available and can be ordered in advance with subscriptions.
