Barker Library presents: Kindergarten Readiness Carnival

The Barker Library, located at 7 Day St., Fredonia, will hold a Kindergarten Readiness Carnival on Friday, Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. This special event is for children going into Pre-K or kindergarten and their families.

Find out what skills your preschooler will need for kindergarten PLUS face painting, ice cream, balloons and FUN! No registration is required.

Al Tech / Dunkirk Specialty Steel retirees

Al Tech / Dunkirk Specialty Steel retirees will meet on Saturday, Aug. 3, 8:30 a.m.. at Bob Evans Restaurant, Vineyard Drive in Dunkirk.

Bat program at Lake Erie State Park Aug. 3

Join bat biologist Jonathan Townsend for evening of batty fun at Lake Erie State Park, 5838 Route 5, Brocton. Attendees will learn about the bats of the world as well as bats of New York State. Townsend will discuss conservation issues facing bats and what you can do to help these very important creatures in a time where all bats worldwide are in trouble. After the presentation, Townsend will lead an “acoustic bat walk” where he will employ specialized ultrasonic microphones to eavesdrop on the secret lives of bats as they forage at dusk if weather permits. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Lake Erie State Park Recreational Hall. The program kicks of at 7:30 p.m., and will run approximately 1 to 2 hours. Dress appropriately to be outdoors after dark. Flashlights and bug repellent are recommended. The program is free to the public. No registration is required. SCHS Class of 1948 to Celebrate 71 Years

Plans are underway for the Silver Creek High School Class of 1948 to celebrate 71 years with a mini reunion. It will be held at the Colony Restaurant in Irving on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. Classmates are invited to bring any interesting articles that can be shared with the group. Guests are invited. Fredonia Planning Board to meet

The Village of Fredonia Planning Board will meet on Tuesday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m. Topic of discussion will be changes to the rental law, Chapter 179 of the local code.
