Dunkirk High School Class of ’69 Memorial Mass Sunday

The Dunkirk High School Class of 1969 Reunion Committee would like to invite family members and friends of deceased classmates to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Hyacinth Church this Sunday at 10 a.m.

The names of the deceased will be read prior to the start of the Mass followed by a trumpet solo of “Amazing Grace” and “Taps” played by classmate Barney Kuzara.

Please arrive at least five minutes before Mass. This special remembrance will mark the end of the DHS Class of ’69 50-Year Reunion.

Hanford Bay railroad crossing closed for repairs today

CSX is closing the Hanford Bay railroad crossing today beginning at 7 a.m. due to an emergency rail replacement. There will be an emergency access road open in Sunset Bay to allow motorists to travel back and forth through Sunset Bay to get out on Routes 5 and 20. The work will take approximately 8 hours; the crossing is expected to open by 6 p.m.

American Legion Post 59 to host annual picnic Aug. 10

The annual Post 59 family picnic will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at Russell Joy Park in Fredonia. Sign up for the picnic is requested by today at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia. Cost for adults is $12 and children under 12 are free of charge.

The picnic will run from noon to 11 p.m. with appetizers at noon, bring a dish to share, followed by the cornhole tournament (sign up required by Thursday, Aug. 8 at Post 59) at 1 p.m. Children’s games will also be played throughout the afternoon. A buffet dinner catered by Super Duper Catering will be served at 2 p.m. There will also be hot dogs, chips and corn at 7 p.m. and music by “Big Tone” from 7 to 10 p.m.

First United Methodist Church to host night of comedy

Tonight at 6 p.m., Fredonia First United Methodist Church will host a night of comedy featuring Rochester-based comedian Dan Kulp and Nashville-based comedian Johnny B. The event takes place in the community room of the church located at 25 Church St., Fredonia, and is free to attend. Refreshments and snacks will be sold during the event.
