City development and grant funds focus of ‘City Speaks’

This week’s “City Speaks” will have Dunkirk’s Planning and Development Director Rebecca Wurster and CDBG Administrator Jill Meaux as our guests. Rebecca and Jill will provide updates on the current and upcoming development projects for the city of Dunkirk. Tune in to find out more about the CDBG funds available for new and existing businesses, the sidewalk project and much more.

“City Speaks” can be viewed in Dunkirk daily on Spectrum 1301 at 3 and 10 p.m. or by going to www.dunkirkaccess.com and viewing it on YouTube at your convenience.

Jamestown Community Third Friday Dance

Jamestown Community Third Friday Dance is Friday, Oct. 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Tree of Life Lutheran Church, 825 Forest Ave., Jamestown. Contra, square, reels, mixers will be taught and called by Joe Kwiatkowski with live music by Viol Habits. No partner necessary. Everyone welcome! Bring a friend. Admission is $5.

St. Joseph’s Gowanda Catholic Church community dinner

St. Joseph’s Gowanda Catholic Church will host a community dinner on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m., at 71 E. Main St., Gowanda. The menu will include chicken ‘n biscuits, applesauce and a variety of pies. All are welcome. Donations are accepted.

Cherry Creek VFW Post 2522 plans steak fry

Cherry Creek VFW Post 2522 will hold a steak fry on Saturday, Oct. 19 beginning at 3 p.m. at 7117 Main St., Route 83, Cherry Creek. the event is open to all — non-members, members, families and especially to those in the community. $15 includes a 10 oz. strip steak, twice baked potato, dinner salad and bread/butter. Cherry Creek Post members will grill the steaks, or patrons can grill their own. The folks are friendly, the food is always good, and attendees will support veterans at the same time.

Fredonia Food Pantry open Saturday

On Saturday, Oct. 19, The Fredonia Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. The pantry serves the needs of residents of Fredonia, area code 14063, Pomfret, Sheridan, and Laona. All guests receive one or more bags of non-perishable food. Number of bags given out depends on family size.

B & LB to hold chicken barbecue Saturday

The B & LB strategic business group will hold a chicken barbecue to benefit Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Church Street, Fredonia. The $11 cost also includes two sides and a dinner roll by Bert Weidner BBQ. The event is sponsored by Baghat & Laurito-Baghat, CPAS; BLB Insurance Agency, Inc.; BLB Main Street Payroll; BLB Merchant Services and BLB Express Prints.
