‘City Speaks’ takes on Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s is a disease that affects thousands of lives each year. Watch this week’s “City Speaks” with Lauren Ashburn, LMSW, Director of Respite Services and Advocacy, and Jose A. Quinones-Visot, Community Outreach Specialist (WNY 8 Counties) of the Alzheimer’s Association. Learn about the 10 early signs of Alzheimers, some of the issues the caretaker’s face and more. If you have a loved one who is suffering with this disease, this week’s City Speaks may offer some comforting words.

“City Speaks” can be viewed in Dunkirk daily on Spectrum 1301 at 3 and 10 p.m., or by going to www.dunkirkaccess.com and viewing it on YouTube at your convenience.

Second annual Trunk or Treat event set at Fredonia First United Methodist

Calling all trick-or-treaters! Come “trunk or treat” with FFUMC at 25 Church St. in Fredonia. From 4-7 p.m. on Halloween, enjoy yummy treats, Halloween fun with decorated vehicles, and a warm-up station with hot chocolate. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Fredonia to host Veterans Remembrance Ceremony

A Veterans Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Friday, Nov. 8, to remember, honor and show gratitude to the countless men and women who have served the United States through branches of the armed forces.

A highlight of the annual event is the presentation of the Courage & Honor and Fredonia Veterans scholarships to students.

The Dunkirk High School Junior ROTC cadets will post and retire the colors during the event.

The ceremony, free and open to the public, will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Light refreshments will be served.

First Friday Community Barn Dance Nov. 1 at Fredonia Grange

An old-fashioned First Friday Community Barn Dance will be held Friday, Nov. 1 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Adults are $7; students, $5, ages 12 and under free. Dances include squares, contras, mixers and more. The event is beginner-friendly and family-friendly. No experience is needed.
